A multi-vehicle crash has closed the southbound lanes of State Highway 1 near Waikanae this evening.
Update 8.50 pm:
The southbound lanes of State Highway 1 (Mackays to Peka Peka Expressway) have reopened.
It follows a multi-vehicle crash near the Te Moana Road Onramp, Waikanae, earlier this evening.
The highway is now open to traffic in both directions. Waka Kotahi wants to thank drivers for their patience and cooperation while the crash scene was cleared.

A multi-vehicle crash has closed the southbound lanes of State Highway 1 (Mackays to Peka Peka Expressway) near Waikanae this evening.
The crash, which was reported just after 6 pm, occurred near the Te Moana Road Onramp.
The Highway’s northbound lanes remain open. Local detours are available for Southbound traffic via Main Rd, Otaihanga roundabout, and Kapiti Rd.
Emergency services and contractors are at the scene. Drivers travelling through the area can expect delays while the crash is cleared.
