The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) will extend the consultation period and provide additional information for Kapiti residents on options for a proposed new four-lane expressway through the district.
NZTA Chief Executive Geoff Dangerfield says feedback from public meetings held since consultation on the expressway proposals began on August 20 has shown a need to provide the community with further information on the potential for using the Western Link Road corridor as a possible route for the expressway instead of as a local road.
“It’s clear that people want to know more about the possibility of building the four lane state highway along the Western Link designation as an option. We’re responding to that feedback by preparing information to distribute to households in the Kapiti Coast so they can make more informed submissions on this as a potential concept for the expressway route.”
Additional information on this concept will be provided to residents discussing options for an expressway through the Kapiti Coast so that residents can compare the advantages and disadvantages of the three concepts.
Mr Dangerfield said the additional information is being prepared as quickly as possible and expected to have this out to residents in two to three weeks. The consultation period will be extended to the end of October to allow residents the opportunity to consider all of the information available.
The additional information will be mailed to households and added to the Kapiti Consultation website at www.nzta.govt.nz/consultation/(external link) as soon as it is completed. People who have already made a submission are welcome to resubmit on the basis of the new information.
