Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that the Wairoa River Bridge on State Highway 2 will be closed for two consecutive nights next week.
The bridge will be closed overnight on Monday 16 March and Tuesday 17 March from 10.30pm-5.30am.
These are the second and third of seven planned closures, from February to April, to allow Western Bay of Plenty District Council to install sections of the cycleway extension on the bridge.
The cycleway extension is one of the final stages of the Ōmokoroa to Tauranga Cycleway.
During the full closure the following local road detour will be in place:
The detour route is not suitable for High Productivity Motor Vehicles (HPMV’s greater than 50Max), over-dimension and overweight vehicles.
Motorists are advised that resurfacing work is also planned for a short section of State Highway 29 outside Tauriko School on these nights from 6.30pm-5.30am and will continue through to Wednesday night. One lane will be open in each direction during the works with a 50km/h temporary speed limit in place.
The next closures are planned for Monday 23 March and Tuesday 24 March.
The Transport Agency and Council thank motorists for their patience.
Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
