Community updated on SH1 improvements in Whangarei

|

The NZ Transport Agency and Whangarei District Council are inviting people to a public information day this Wednesday 2 April for updates on the city’s State Highway 1 (SH1) improvements.

With the SH1/14/Maunu Road intersection upgrade nearing completion, the Transport Agency is shifting focus to the next stage of improvements - upgrading SH1 through Selwyn Avenue.

Work has now started on this project, which will complete the upgrade between Western Hills Drive to the Caltex Service Station, and from the Rust Avenue Bridge to 5th Avenue on Selwyn Avenue. The work includes widening the existing highway, construction of new footpaths, new traffic signals and the relocation of underground telecommunication and power links.

“The improvements will provide safer and easier access through the city, and the open day is an opportunity for us to keep the community involved and informed,” says the Transport Agency’s Highway Manager Tommy Parker.

The public information day will be held at the NZ Vikings Room at Toll Stadium, Okara Drive. Open times are 10am-12.00pm and 2pm - 7pm.
