The NZ Transport Agency has successfully completed much-needed safety improvement work along a central city section of State Highway 44 (SH44), making the highway safer for everyone who uses it.
Acting NZ Transport Agency Systems Manager Mark Owen says the NZ Transport Agency is pleased to have successfully completed the structural asphalt project on what is a busy stretch of St Aubyn Street, whilst minimising the disruption to the community.
“We know that completing roadworks during the day on busy inner-city streets can be disruptive to our communities, and we really want to thank those in New Plymouth for their patience and cooperation while this work was completed.
“For us, success means carrying out our work safely and efficiently, while keeping inconvenience for road users to a minimum, and in this instance we were able to maintain pedestrian access and minimise disruption to both drivers and cyclists,” says Mr Owen.
The works formed part of the Taranaki region’s planned Forward Works Programme and included digging out, reinforcing and asphalting the busy stretch of inner-city St Aubyn Street, near the city’s cenotaph war memorial.
Further work is planned during May 2019, both on State Highway 45 (SH45) on Powderham Street, between Robe and Brougham Streets, and on the Powderham Street / Dawson Street intersection of SH45.
