The community open day will give people the chance to see the completed motorway, bridges and urban design on the project, which has taken four years to complete.

The walking route spans the four kilometres of the new motorway from Sandringham Road roundabout to Hillsborough Road interchange, with stops at several points along the way.
Some food and drink will be available to purchase on the day and there will be displays and information at marquees situated at Dominion Road and May Road.
The Rotary clubs of Harbourside and One Tree Hill will be collecting an optional gold coin donation to fundraise for two charities. Proceeds will go towards a new mobility lift for the Laura Fergusson Trust and a university scholarship fund for a Mt Roskill student from a low income family.
NZTA Regional Director Wayne McDonald says the new motorway has been eagerly anticipated, “We realise that local residents have been patient throughout the disruption of the past four years of construction and this open day is our way of thanking them and giving them a chance to see our brand new motorway at their leisure,” he says.
The new 4.5 kilometre motorway is scheduled to open progressively in the week after a ribbon cutting scheduled for Friday 15 May. It has two lanes in each direction and makes up part of the central section of the Western Ring Route – a 48 kilometre alternative to SH1 between Manukau and Albany via SH20, SH16 and SH18. Projects at Mangere Bridge, Manukau and Waterview will form the remainder of the SH20 link.
