Community input into Whangarei Improvements

|

The NZ Transport Agency reminds Whangarei residents that submissions on the city’s State Highway 1 (SH1) improvements from Wilson Avenue to Fourth Avenue close next Tuesday, 3 September.

The Transport Agency plans to widen SH1 (Western Hills Drive) to two lanes in each direction and include access changes to Wilson Avenue from SH1, and introduce a no right turn restriction at the SH1/ Fourth Avenue intersection.  The project also includes provisions for cyclists, and new footpaths for pedestrians. Acting Highways Manager Steve Mutton says the submissions are a significant opportunity for people to have their say on the proposals.

“This is a chance for the public to provide us and our partners at the Whangarei District Council, with their views and concerns, and any other feedback on this stage of the SH1 improvements which will affect their community” says Mr Mutton.

The Transport Agency is currently upgrading the intersection of SH1/ SH14 and Maunu Road as part of the improvements, and this project is set to be completed in April next year.

People can make submissions online or by completing a submission form. Both options can be found on the Whangarei District Council website, www.wdc.govt.nz(external link)
