NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is celebrating recognition for its commitment to sustainability and collaboration at an international awards ceremony.
The project has been named Transportation Project of the Year at the Environmental Analyst Sustainability Delivery Awards, held yesterday in Boston, USA.
“This award is testament to the project’s collaborative approach and a commitment to sustainability from all participants of the Mt Messenger Alliance,” says NZTA Project Manager Caleb Perry.
“With Te Ara o Te Ata, our goals are greater than building a new section of state highway.
“From the outset, the Te Ara o Te Ata approach has been one of genuine collaboration among all organisations involved in delivering this unique project.
“Alongside our mana whenua partner Ngāti Tama and the Mt Messenger Alliance, NZTA is committed to continuing this collaborative approach, while delivering lasting gains for the flora and fauna surrounding the bypass, and treading lightly on the whenua throughout construction.”
Alliance partner Tonkin + Taylor collected the award in Boston on behalf of the Mt Messenger Alliance, which comprises NZTA, Downer, HEB Construction, WSP and Tonkin + Taylor.
The award is the project’s second to date, having won Project of the Year at the 2023 Crane Association of New Zealand awards – for construction of Te Ara o Te Ata’s groundbreaking cableway, which has been transporting equipment, materials and workers into the remote heart of the project for more than a year.
