Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that Maungatautari Road will be closed at the intersection of State Highway 1 from 7pm Sunday 14 February to 7pm Sunday 21 February.
Update on Tuesday 16 February at 2.14pm
The below road closure, which was scheduled to run for one week from 7pm Sunday 14 February until 7pm on Sunday 21 February, has been delayed due to the weather. The road closure will now take place from 6pm tomorrow (Wednesday 17 February) to 6pm Wednesday 24 February. All other details remain the same.
The closure is to ensure the safety of motorists as well as road crews who will be carrying out repairs and resurfacing of SH1 adjacent to the intersection with Maungatautari Road. Drivers on SH1 are reminded to comply with temporary speed restrictions as they pass through the site.
In the event of an emergency on the Karapiro section of SH1, Maungatautari Road will be re-opened for detour traffic. Traffic Management staff will be onsite 24 hours a day while Maungatautari Road is closed to assist with access to the immediate residents affected by the closure and provide a SH1 detour if required.
Traffic heading towards Maungatautari from the north will need to detour via Cambridge or from the south via Arapuni.
