The Christchurch Transport Operations Centre (CTOC) is making travel throughout Christchurch during the festival season less stressful for everyone by placing restrictions on road works from the end of this week.
The Christchurch Transport Operations Centre (CTOC) is making travel throughout Christchurch during the festival season less stressful for everyone by placing restrictions on road works from the end of this week.
CTOC Manager Ryan Cooney says from 6 to 27 December is a critical time for Christchurch retailers and CTOC is making sure road users have safe and easy access to retail areas, shopping centres and along strategic routes by minimising the disruption to traffic during this time.
“Any road works which are having an impact on traffic flows, public parking or pedestrian access in these areas will be uplifted, where practical, from 3.30pm this Friday 6 December.”
Activities that do not impact on traffic will not be restricted during this time.
He says normal traffic management activities in these areas will resume again at 7am on Friday 27 December. “There will be no restrictions around retail areas or suburban shopping centres during the new year period.”
On strategic routes, such as the state highways, Memorial Avenue, Blenheim Road, Pages Road, Marshlands Road, Ferry Road and the four avenues, all road works sites will be wound up by 3.30pm on Friday 20 December.
“All road work sites that impact on transport network operations along these strategic routes will remain closed until 7am Monday 6 January.”
Mr Cooney says putting in place the restrictions should make for safer and easier travel for everyone and help relieve some of the stress associated with travelling at this time of the year.
