Chip sealing for SH2 between Masterton to Carterton to start 10 January

The NZ Transport Agency is advising road users that the State Highway 2 Masterton to Carterton passing lane, south of the Ravensdown plant, will be resurfaced with chip seal overnight on Tuesday 10 January and Wednesday 11 January 2017.

Motorists should allow time for stop/go traffic control between 7pm and 5.30am. While workers are on site, there will be a temporary speed limit of 30 km/h, and during the days following the work, the temporary speed limit will be 50/ km/h while the chip seal beds down.

'We ask that road users stick to these temporary speed limits as they are in place to keep our workers and all road users safe,' Mark Owen, NZ Transport Agency Regional Performance Manager says.

'The warmer months in summer are the best time of year for maintenance and repairs. While we appreciate that people are travelling for their summer holiday break, it is also our window of opportunity to take advantage of good weather to do maintenance to keep our roads in good shape,' Mr Owen says.

'Chip sealing is weather dependant. A forecast of rain for the Kapiti Coast has meant that we can shift our resources and take advantage of fine weather on the cards for the Wairarapa to undertake this important road maintenance work earlier than expected.'
