Changes at Lincoln Road on Auckland’s Northwestern

|

The NZ Transport Agency will take advantage of tonight’s planned closure of Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway (State Highway 16) between Brigham Creek roundabout and Te Atatu Road to make changes at the Lincoln Road interchange to benefit drivers accessing the motorway.

These changes on Lincoln Road will separate traffic heading into the city from those wanting to access the motorway heading westbound.

The Transport Agency’s Safety and Network Performance Manager Steve Mutton says that the changes will help ease congestion that has delayed drivers during the morning peak in recent days.

“We noticed with the present layout that drivers heading west were getting caught up with city bound traffic and that was contributing to the delays” says Mr Mutton.

“The new layout being implemented tonight will provide one dedicated lane for westbound drivers and one dedicated lane for eastbound drivers and those heading over to the concourse, as it was previously”.

“We appreciate the patience all drivers have shown this week and we ask that that patience and extra care is taken when the new layout is in place from tomorrow morning,” says Mr Mutton.

The Transport Agency reminds drivers that there is a 70kph limit driving through the Lincoln Road works and 80kph through the rest of the works along the Western Ring Route.

The Lincoln Road improvements are part of a suite of projects to complete the Western Ring Route – Road of National Significance - prioritised by the Government to support growth and economic development in Auckland. The alternative motorway route to SH1 will improve connections between Manukau in the south, Auckland International Airport, Waitakere and the North Shore, and improve regional connections north and south of the city.
