This Sunday’s Open Day at the M2PP Expressway will be a great chance for the community to get an up close and personal look at the impressive work that’s been underway for the last two years.
The NZ Transport Agency and the M2PP Alliance are inviting the public to come along to what promises to be a fun and fascinating Open Day as the project approaches its two year anniversary of construction.
The public are encouraged to bring their families – the event will be kid-friendly, with plenty of machinery, and a bouncy castle on offer. Food and drinks will be available to purchase onsite. Entry is by a gold coin donation for charity.
The public will also get to be among the very first people to walk over the brand new Kāpiti Road bridge.
“This is one of the biggest roading projects Wellington has ever seen, and when it’s our new main route north of Wellington, it will be great to look back and remember being there while it was built,” says Transport Agency highways manager Neil Walker.
Project manager Alan Orange says, “Hundreds of very talented and hardworking locals have worked on this project, and it’s an exciting chance to get a close look at the incredible work that we’ve achieved together.
“To appreciate the sheer scale of what has been done, you really need to be there – and this is your chance.”
The Open Day will run from 10am to 3pm, with access off Te Roto Drive, which is off Kāpiti Rd. Parking is available.
People can also learn more about the Peka Peka to Otaki section of the Kāpiti Expressway, which is due to kick off next year, and Transmission Gully, which is now under construction just down the road.
