The NZ Transport Agency is asking drivers to continue to take care on Canterbury roads, after poor weather conditions today and that experienced over the long Easter weekend have hampered efforts to clean up loose debris and pot holes in the area immediately.
Transport Agency Canterbury Journey Manager, Lee Wright says there are still areas where large potholes, debris, surface flooding and loose material are still present on parts of the Canterbury’s state highway network. Continued poor weather today have hampered clean up and repair operations and she asks drivers to take care.
“Everyone needs to take even greater care on the roads, we have wet slippery roads, especially on bends, pot holes, surface flooding, possible debris still on the roads. We are trying to clean up and undertake repairs as quickly as possible, but today’s weather conditions will make it difficult to do so quickly,” says Lee Wright.
“Please do take care and adjust your driving for the conditions,” she says.
Key tips to keep you safe in wet weather:
Stopping distances nearly double on wet roads so allow greater following distances
Bridges could also stay slippery longer than other road surfaces.
