The NZ Transport Agency advises drivers that a section of the city-bound lanes on Auckland's Northwestern Motorway (State Highway 16) will be closed on most nights during the two weeks from next Tuesday, 1 May, for repairs to the Royal Road overbridge.
The city-bound lanes will be closed from the Brigham Creek roundabout to the Royal Road overbridge. The eastbound on-ramp connecting State Highway 18 to the Northwestern at Westgate will also be closed.
To minimise disruption to drivers, the NZTA will carry out repairs between 10pm and 5am on five continuous nights from Sundays to Thursdays. On Friday and Saturday nights, the city-bound lanes will be kept open.
The NZTA will have detours in place via Hobsonville Rd and Royal Rd, and drivers are asked to follow the signposted detours.
Westbound lanes on the Northwestern Motorway are not affected by the closure.
The overbridge spanning the motorway was damaged yesterday (26 April) when it was hit by a digger being carried on a truck. The bridge remains open although a 30kph speed restriction is in place.
Repairs to the bridge are expected to be completed by 15 May.
The NZTA's investigation into the crash is continuing.
