Residents and regular users of State Highway 53 are urged to plan ahead with the Tauherenikau River bridge to be closed for repairs and maintenance this weekend.
Weather permitting, the closure will be between 8 pm and 4.30 am Sunday, 2 April.
Contractors will be repairing the bridge’s rails and carrying out other maintenance work. The work is essential to keeping the bridge and highway safe for road users.
Local detours will be available for traffic. Vehicles travelling to Martinborough can detour via Camp Road, State Highway 2 and No.1 Line back to State Highway 53. The opposite route applies to people heading to Featherston.
The detour will mean it will take longer to travel between Featherston and Martinborough. Drivers will need to factor this into their plans.
