Blair Athol, SH6, five-plus weeks of road work underway, Central Otago

|

People who travel on the Luggate-Cromwell section of SH6 will have five weeks or more road reconstruction from this week* into mid-October, says NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

Just over 500 metres of highway at Blair Athol, south of Queensbury, north of Kidd Creek, is being resurfaced by NZTA’s Aspiring Highways maintenance team, adding up to ten minutes to road users’ journeys.

  • Manual traffic managers using Stop/Go paddles will pause traffic around the single lane site as needed over five-plus weeks of activity.
  • Hours of work are 8 am to 6 pm, week-days only, with speed reduced to 30km/h ahead of and through the site.
  • Dates of work are Monday, 9 September through to Wednesday, 16 October, around five-and-a-half weeks’ work.
  • This work is weather dependent so wet days may push the completion date out.
  • Over-dimension load drivers need to notify Aspiring Highways 48 hours before setting out on the highway network.

NZTA thanks all daily drivers for their patience while this essential maintenance project is underway.

“Expect delays particularly through the school holiday period which starts 28 September (Saturday) into mid-October,” says NZTA Otago Journey Manager Nicole Felts.
