The NZ Transport Agency says stop/go traffic management will be in place on roads in the Whakatane district next week as contractors roll out a water cutting programme.
Water cutting with a high pressure water jet removes areas of excess bitumen that have appeared during the hot weather over summer. It helps to improve grip and prolong the life of the road.
Transport Agency contractors will be working at sites on SH2 between Otamarakau/Pikowai and Waimana, and SH30 between Awakeri and Whakatane.
The stop/go traffic control will be in place to allow crews to work as quickly and safely as possible while keeping delays to road users to a minimum. Work at each site takes around an hour to complete.
Other construction and maintenance work continues at sites around the region and motorists are advised to drive with care and allow for delays when travelling.
Sites where delays are possible are detailed below to allow motorists to plan ahead when travelling.
SH2 Papamoa - tree removal
People travelling on SH2 past the old site of the Papamoa Hall should expect short delays while contractors trim and fell trees to improve road visibility for motorists.
The NZ Transport Agency says stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions of 30km/h or 50/km/h will be in place at times until June 31.
Work started at the site last week and good progress has been made. Motorists are asked to be alert and drive with care around the work site.
SH30A Amohau Street, Rotorua
One eastbound lane of SH30A between Amohia and Fenton Streets in Rotorua will be closed on Sunday June 21 to allow contractors to carry out landscaping.
SH2 and SH29 safety works
Stop/ go traffic management, lane changes and speed restrictions will be in place along parts of SH2 and SH29 in the Bay of Plenty this month as a major safety improvement programme continues.
In total, there will be 28 active sites along SH2 between Tauranga and Waihi, and approximately three active sites along SH29 between Tauriko and the Kaimai Summit this month.
Motorists are advised to allow an extra 15 minutes when travelling on SH2 and should expect minor delays on SH29.
SH33 Paengaroa
New pedestrian islands and guard railing are being installed on SH33 near Paengaroa this month.
The work started on June 10 and is expected to continue until July 1.
Motorists should allow for five minute delays due to stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions.
The Transport Agency apologies for any inconvenience caused and thanks motorists for their patience during the works.
