The NZ Transport Agency is advising drivers of changes coming next week to Auckland’s Great North Road at Waterview.
On Tuesday night, 17 January, the existing chicane or bend near the service station will be removed and the road will be restored to its normal straight alignment. At the same time, the 30 km/h speed limit through the chicane will be lifted and the 50 km/h limit reinstated.
The road will remain open during the reinstatement work, although traffic may be managed through a single lane at times. The work is weather dependent.
The realignment of the road is related to the NZ Transport Agency’s adjoining Waterview Connection project. The chicane was created so that a shaft could be built below Great North Road to carry fumes from the Waterview tunnels to a vent stack near the service station.
