The NZ Transport Agency says the northbound lanes of State Highway 1 have re-opened after a truck crash closed all three lanes at lunchtime near the entrance to Auckland's Victoria Park tunnel.
The NZTA re-opened the motorway at about 3.15pm after a safety inspection of the motorway and the removal of the crashed truck and its container. The nearby Wellington Street on-ramp has also re-opened.
The NZTA says it will take some time for motorway congestion to clear and it does not expect the motorway northbound to be fully operational until the end of this afternoon’s peak. Traffic queues extend about 9 kilometres back to the Panmure-Ellerslie interchange, and heavy traffic is also reported in central Auckland.
The NZTA brought forward this afternoon’s lane barrier move on the Auckland Harbour Bridge to provide an additional northbound lane earlier than usual to help improve driving conditions.
Southbound traffic on the Southern Motorway is flowing normally and has not been affected by the crash.
