The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists travelling on State Highway 1 (SH1) through the central Waikato this weekend to expect short delays due to road works.
SH1 at Huntly will be CLOSED for five hours from 8pm Sunday August 23 until 1am Monday August 24, while contractors remove and replace damaged framework on the Huntly footbridge.
During the closure traffic will be detoured off SH1 via Fletcher St, Hakanoa St, William St, Rayner Rd, Tumate Mahuta Dr and Tainui Bridge Rd back to SH1 and short delays are possible.
The work to repair the footbridge is expected to be complete in mid-September. There will be no pedestrian access to the bridge during this time.
Speed restrictions and lane closures will also be in place on SH1 Taupriri from 7pm Sunday until 5.30am the following day while contractors repair and resurface parts of the road.
The work is weather dependent and may be postponed until the following night if necessary.
The Transport Agency urges motorists to drive with care through the worksite and keep to the temporary speed restrictions for the safety of themselves and the road crews.
