The NZ Transport Agency says stop/go traffic management and a 30km/h speed restriction will be in place on three sections of State Highway 30 (SH30) near Lake Rotoiti today.
Contractors are resealing sections of the highway and motorists are advised to drive with care and allow extra time when travelling. The work will wrap up this afternoon.
People can get information on road works and detours in the region they are in, or travelling to by going online and checking www.nzta.govt.nz/summerjourneys(external link) , by calling 0800 444 449 or following the Transport Agency on Facebook or Twitter.
Bay of Plenty travellers can also go to www.drivelive.nz/tauranga(external link) , a dedicated website that tells drivers what the current travel times are to get to key places.
Drivers will be given a 14-day reprieve from summer road works from this week, with no work on state highways from noon on Wednesday December 23 until 10am on January 6.
Crews will only carry out urgent emergency works if needed during the shutdown to reduce delays for drivers during the peak holiday period.
