When you complete an application form for a driver licence or endorsement, you must write your gender on the form. This is required under section 10 of the Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Rule 1999.
Previously, we’ve had options for Male, Female and Gender Diverse on our driver licence forms.
We’re now transitioning to a text field so you can write whatever gender you identify with.
Section 10 of the Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Rule 1999(external link)
While the form will now have a text field for you to write your gender, there are limited options for gender in the Driver Licence Register. The Driver Licence Register only has the options Male, Female or Gender Diverse.
If you write anything other than Male or Female on the application form, it will be recorded in the Driver Licence Register as Gender Diverse.
However, as the gender isn’t printed on your driver licence, this won’t be displayed anywhere.
If you want to change your gender in the Driver Licence Register, you can change it as a part of any driver licence application or you can contact us.
