To prevent people from presenting fraudulent licences to be exempt from sitting tests, from 8 July 2024 you may need to provide extra evidence of validity.
If your overseas licence is from an exempt country, but your evidence of identity is from a different country, you must provide evidence that your licence is valid.
For example, if your licence is from Japan, but your passport is from Saudi Arabia, you'll need to provide evidence.
If you apply before 8 July, you don't need to provide this evidence with your application. However, NZTA will still audit your application, and we'll be in touch if we have any doubts about your licence being valid.
You'll need to get evidence of validity from the relevant licensing authority. Most people should be able to get this online at one of the websites below, or from the relevant embassy.
