Why test fees for car licences changed
Your application fee includes your first test, and a second test if you need it.
For example, a learner licence application includes 2 theory tests, and a restricted licence application includes 2 restricted practical tests.
If you need 3 tests or more, you'll need to pay a test fee for each test.

The application fee is the same for 1 year or 5 years.
If you need an ID card, the fee for this is included in the application fee.

If you need to change, cancel, or rebook your test for a heavy vehicle licence (class 2-5) or motorcycle licence (class 6), it's free. Please do it as far in advance as possible so someone else can book the test time.
If you need to change, cancel or rebook your test for a car licence (class 1), there may be a fee.
Fees to change or rebook a car licence test
If you're applying for a heavy vehicle (class 2-5) or motorcycle (class 6) licence, you won't need to apply for a refund. You can just rebook your test without having to pay a fee.
If you're applying for a car (class 1) licence, make sure you contact us as soon as possible if you ever need to change or cancel a test. If you change or cancel more than 2 full working days in advance, you'll be able to rebook your test without having to pay a fee or with a lower fee.
You can't get a refund if your application fee included 2 tests, but you only needed one test to pass. The application fee is set in legislation.
If you won't be continuing with your application due to special circumstances, or if you cancelled your car licence test more than 2 full working days before the day of the test, you may be able to apply for a refund.
