CBTA information for members of the public
If you’re interested in becoming a Transport Agency-approved assessor for competency-based assessment, you’ll have to meet a range of criteria. To be approved by the Transport Agency, you'll need to:
*If you are an IAM, ROSPA or MSF rider certified to advanced riding standard (or higher), or if you’ve conducted advanced motorcycle instruction for NZ Army or NZ Police within the past five years, you won’t need to undertake the advanced riding assessment. Evidence of other riding experience may also be acceptable and is to be determined on a case-by-case basis.

If you meet the criteria in the approval criteria document, you're invited to make an application to become a Transport Agency-approved assessor.
Send your completed application form to your local transport officer (you can find these details on the application form).

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has approved a number of advanced riding assessment certifiers to conduct these assessments.
Applicants who need to have their riding skills assessed via an advanced riding assessment can book and undertake the assessment with one of the following approved certifiers.

Once you're invited to progress to stage 3 of the application process to become an approved CBTA assessor, you can book in with one of the Transport Agency staff approved certifiers. You can book your CBTA 6R assessment with them by emailing motorcycleCBTA@nzta.govt.nz.
The 6R assessment will be conducted on your assessment route, developed as part of stage 2.
