Request compensation for vehicle damage

From time to time accidents can happen on the state highway network, such as:

  • chipped windscreens when driving on a section of newly sealed road, or
  • tyre damage when driving over a pothole.

The state highway network isn't guaranteed to be free from defects at all times. Drive to the local conditions and remember that conditions may vary along a stretch of road.

Contact your insurer first

Talk to your insurance provider if any damage has occurred. If appropriate, your insurer can then contact us.

When to complete this form

NZTA or its contractors will only provide compensation if we haven't taken reasonable care to maintain the state highway network in good condition.
