Construction is currently underway on the commercial vehicle safety centre (CVSC) in central Auckland, on and around Stanley Street.

Installation and construction work started in late March 2024 and is expected to be completed in late 2024.

Weigh-in-motion scales, static vehicle recognition cameras, and Variable Message Signage are being installed at five key locations leading to and from Auckland Ports.

These will screen vehicles passing 24/7 and direct any non-compliant heavy vehicles into the Stanley Street CVSC. Police officers on site will check on vehicle weight, road user charges (RUC), certificate of fitness, logbook and driver impairment.

Vehicle screening – how it works

Everyday motorists will not be directed into a CVSC when they’re passing. Light vehicles will have their licence plates scanned and information is anonymised within seconds of being captured to maintain privacy. The exception to this is in the case of stolen vehicles.

About the centre

The existing (CVSC) at Stanley Street has a weigh station facility and compliance building. This is being upgraded with new technology and equipment.
