The Commercial Vehicle Safety Programme (CVSP) supports the design of a safe and productive land transport system and creates a level playing field for the heavy vehicle industry.
When implemented, the programme will maximise coverage of heavy vehicle compliance monitoring. It will screen and collect truck and operator information to monitor behaviour 24/7 through roadside weigh-in-motion sensors to record weight, and static cameras to capture number plates and identify potential vehicle non-compliance.
Operated in partnership with NZ Police, the sites will target non-compliant heavy vehicles and direct them into the CVSC for inspection. This approach will ensure operators are paying their fair share of road maintenance and allows compliant operators to keep freight moving across the road network.
It’s about safer roads, a level playing field for industry and risk-based regulation.
