Proposed changes to mandate electronic stability control

The Transport Agency, in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport carried out consultation on the introduction of mandatory electronic stability control (ESC) for new, and imported used, light vehicles entering the New Zealand fleet. The consultation opened 11 March 2014 and closed 22 April 2014.

Land Transport Rule: Light-vehicle Brakes Amendment 2014 (the amendment rule) makes the necessary changes to Land Transport Rule: Light-vehicle Brakes 2002 (the principal rule) to implement the ESC requirements.
