Ross Clifford, Fulton Hogan Project Engineer being interviewed on site |
We're basically demolishing the old Park Estate Road Bridge tonight. So we've previously built the first stage and moved the traffic onto the new bridge. And this demolition makes way for us to get into the second stage of the project. |

Danny Halley, Nikau Contractors Project Manager being interviewed on site |
We've been working on this project with Fulton Hogan for the last three months, and there's obviously a lot of logistics involved, and planning. It's been right down to the last half hour for the timing of the project. |

Heavy machinery eating into old bridge structure. |
We've brought in 200 cubes of fill to protect the existing road and we've got about 400 cube to remove of the old bridge. |
00:00:51 |
Digger placing material onto truck for recycling, heavy machinery demolishing concrete |
All of the material, all of the concrete and reinforcing steel gets recycled. We send all the reinforcing steel to the scrap dealers and all the concrete gets put through our crusher, and we produce gap 65 (aggregate) and gap 20, which we use on other projects. |

[Text] Auckland's Southern Motorway needed to be closed between Papakura and Drury during the demolition job. |
We've got a 14 hour window, which runs form 7pm Saturday night to 9am Sunday morning, and this is enough time for us to take the whole bridge down, with minimal disruption to the residents. |
