Terms of Use: This privacy statement (Privacystatement) forms part of the NZ Transport Agency (we, us, our) Terms of Use for the mobile device-based application known as the NZ Transport Agency app - BETA version(s) (the App) and should be read in conjunction with those Terms of Use.
Scope: This Privacy statement applies to your personal information held in the App. You don't have to accept these terms, but if you choose not to accept them you will not be able to use the App. You'll still be able to manage your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 by using our website or contacting our support centre.
Record of acceptance: If you accept the terms of this Privacy statement, we're automatically provided with confirmation that you have accepted.
Personal information we may collect and/or display through the App: Depending on what App service you're using and what updates to your information you may wish to provide, personal information we may collect and/or display includes your name, date of birth, physical address, email address, telephone number, vehicle and driver licence details, New Zealand business number, information about your communications with us and use of our services, including certain described below.
Biometric Identifier: If you elect to use a Biometric Identifier as set out in clause 13 of the Terms, we do not collect or store this Biometric Identifier; it is stored on the device you use to access the App.
App analytics and data: By using the App, you agree we may collect and use certain information about your use of the App, including
Non-identifiable information about your device, such as the type and model of your device, App version and operating system.
App information, such as your interactions with the App (for example, the number of times you visit a screen, time spent on a screen, or sections you tap on, crash logs, diagnostics, security logs and other app performance data tied to your use of the App).
Who we share your information with: We won’t share your personal information with any third parties, except where disclosure is authorised by you or by law. The information-sharing terms of our general privacy statement also apply to our App services. General privacy statement
Why we need your personal information: We may use and disclose your information for the purposes of:
confirming your identity
providing you with the service you are needing – for example, obtaining insights into how you interact with the App and to better understand your preferences and requirements so that we can tailor your customer experience
maintaining, improving and managing the App and our services and performing other administrative and operational tasks including but not limited to testing, maintenance and incident management of the App, analytics and crash reporting
identifying, preventing or investigating any security risks, fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct (or suspected security risks, fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct) and managing these
contacting you, including regarding any App issue we can see you have been facing or that you have contacted us to assist you with
fulfilling our legal obligations.
When we collect personal information through the App: If you update your personal information using the App, your personal information is updated in our systems periodically. Only you or someone authorised by you should update your personal information using the App. To ensure no one else has unauthorised access to your personal information, it’s important to keep your login details (such as password, biometric credentials and/or PIN) confidential and specific to you; do not allow anyone else to login to your account by any means. If you have authorised someone to update your details for you, you should first log-in yourself before handing that person your device – you must not share your log-in details with that person.
How we use your information: Our general privacy statement on how we use your information also applies to the App.
Changes: We may revise this Privacy statement and changes will take effect immediately. We’ll also advise you in the App, and you’ll need to agree to the changes to continue using the App.
How we keep your information secure: Our general privacy statement on how we store your information and keep it secure also applies to the App.
How to ask about your information: You can ask questions, request access to, and correction of, your information. In some cases, we may refer you to the NZ Police or another agency if they collected and/or hold the information.
