From May to September 2025, we will be working on The Strand Optimisation Project - stage 2 improvements next to the eastbound lanes on SH16 The Strand, Parnell.

This project will include the construction of a shared use path (SUP) and intersections upgrades to improve pedestrian safety and provide an alternative route for cyclists along this heavy freight corridor.

The majority of work will be carried out during the daytime from Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm to minimise the disruption for residents.

Motorists will be able to travel along SH16 The Strand in both directions throughout the project.

What we are doing?

The new shared use path will begin along Beach Road and connect to The Strand up to the rail overbridge. It will be separated from the road to improve safety, road efficiency and productivity. Our activities include:

  • Constructing a new shared use path alongside SH16 The Strand.
  • Upgrading the intersections at Beach Road/ The Strand, Ronayne Street, Ngaoho Place, Sudbury Terrace and Cotesmore Way.
  • Improve the lighting on the shared use path.

How will it affect you?

We expect increased noise levels when the team are working.  To minimise disruption, we plan to carry out most activities during the day, between 7am and 5pm. However, night shifts will be required when working in certain areas.

  • Day works: The majority of work will take place during weekdays, Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm.  This work will not affect traffic travelling along SH16.  Traffic management will be in place to assist pedestrians and vehicle access to properties when required.
  • Night works: Night works will be carried out when a lane restriction is required on The Strand.  We will notify at least the week prior through email alerts.

Road users will be able to travel along SH16 The Strand at all times.

Traffic management will be in place to assist pedestrians and vehicle access to and from properties when required.
