From February 2025 to January 2026, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi will be carrying out essential bridge maintenance on Span 1, which is located over Te Onewa Pā at Stokes Point Reserve.

Access to the Pā

For public safety there will be changes to Te Onewa Pā access. 

  • Stage 1 & 2 (February to June):  Y ou will only be able to access the site using the western entrance. The eastern entrance will be closed.  
  • Stage 3 to 5 (June until completion):   There will be no public access to Te Onewa Pā.  

Dates for the full access closure may change based on programme progress or request from council.

When are we working?

From Monday 17 February to January 2026. 

We will be working during the daytime, Monday to Friday between 7am and 5.30pm.

Saturday work may be considered. If Saturday work is required that may disrupt residents, notification will be provided in advance.

What are we doing?

Our team will be carrying out maintenance in an enclosed environment to reduce noise and dust.  The work being undertaken includes removing coatings back to the steel and repainting, to prevent corrosion. Refer to the below schedule and diagram for timeframes and impact to access of Te Onewa Pā.
