How do I keep my driver licence safe?

Your driver licence card is as valuable as a passport or bank card, so you should keep both the card and the information on it safe.

Don’t give out your details unless you’re sure it’s for a legitimate purpose. There are some handy hints on our website to help you determine whether it’s safe to hand over your driver licence details.

You should let us know if:

  • your licence card is lost or stolen
  • you think someone else knows your licence number and could use it fraudulently (such as if you think you’ve been the victim of a ‘phishing’ scam).
