Strategic fit for road safety promotion

This section sets out the guidance on assessing strategic fit for activities within the road safety promotion activity class.

 

The road safety promotion activity class incorporates:

  • Work category 432 - Promotion, education and advertising.

 

Default strategic fit

By default, the strategic fit rating for road safety promotion activities is low.

 

Requirements for medium rating

A road safety promotion programme may be given a medium strategic fit rating if it comprises of road user behaviour change activities for reducing the actual crash risk or predicted crash risk involving deaths and serious injuries through:

  • national programmes in a Safer Journeys area of medium concern
  • local programmes in a Safer Journeys area of medium concern
  • local programmes for a community at medium risk
  • national programmes that support local programmes for a community at medium risk

 

Requirements for high rating

A high strategic fit rating must only be given to road safety promotion programmes if they are comprised of road user behaviour change activities for reducing the actual crash risk involving deaths and serious injuries:

  • specified in the government’s Safer Journeys action plan(s); or
  • delivered through
    • national programmes in a Safer Journeys area of high concern
    • local programmes in a Safer Journeys area of high concern
    • local programmes for a community at high risk
    • national programmes that support local programmes for a community at high risk
