Safety is one of the government’s top four strategic priorities for investment in the 2024-27 National Land Transport Programme and will be delivered by NZTA as an outcome across all activity classes, programmes and projects.
Our investment in safety is focused on encouraging safer driving behaviour, promoting safer vehicles and road policing and enforcement such as safety cameras, alongside investment in other safety interventions such as building safer infrastructure - all enabling people to travel safely and efficiently.
The Roads of National Significance (RoNS) programme will build strategic corridors that will support economic growth and productivity, reduce congestion, improve safety, support new housing development and provide a more resilient roading network. Our Maintenance and Operations programmes will improve safety and resilience. There are also a number of other infrastructure improvements happening around the regions, from roundabouts to flexible road safety barriers.
