Other hazards within the roadway

For the purposes of this manual, environmental hazards within the roadway are physical features that may restrict movement, cause considerable discomfort, or may be a hazard to roads users. These include:

• dips, humps, and uneven surfaces (Table 6‑17);
• slippery surfaces (Table 6‑18);
• slips, falling debris, and flying stones (Table 6‑18); and
• water crossings (Table 12‑4).

While local area traffic management (LATM) devices may restrict movement for road users, they are not environmental hazards as described in this section of the manual. For information in relation to LATM devices refer to the Speed management guide.
