The first section of SH1 to be closed for maintenance and rebuild was SH1 from just south of Tīrau - the SH1/SH5 roundabout – through to the intersection SH1 and SH28 which is just north of Putāruru. This work and closure started at 7am on Monday 9 September 2024 and reopened on Friday afternoon 4 October 2024.
Night-works to complete the final sealing of the Tīrau to Putāruru section was done from 20 January 2025 to 4 February. This section is now fully finished.
