Work on the Mangatoetoenui Bridge was a major part of the SH1 Tīrau to Waiouru project on SH1 Desert Road.
The bridge was the last timber decked bridge in Waikato. The timber deck was in bad condition and needed to be replaced. This video shows the old timber deck being removed and replaced with concrete slabs using New Zealand’s largest mobile crane.
