Work on the slip below the road on State Highway 35 at Raukokore is now expected to start Tuesday (25 July) after crews were diverted to help with reopening the highway at the Waioeka Gorge.
The NZ Transport Agency is advising people travelling in the Thames-Coromandel area to check the website or ring 0800 44 44 49 before leaving for their journeys as heavy down pours and high winds are expected.
More than half of the debris from the 5500m3 slip on State Highway 2 at the Waioeka Gorge has now been cleared, but the site remains active and more work is needed to get the road open.
The NZ Transport Agency says work to remove the slip on State Highway 2 between Opotiki and Gisborne is well underway with several trucks clearing the debris at both ends.
The NZ Transport Agency wants to talk to the local community about making a further two sections of State Highway 3 safer for everyone who uses the busy road.
Road resurfacing at the single-lane Awakino Tunnel will see the tunnel closed from approximately 10pm on Sunday 25 June through to 4am on Monday 26 June.
The deck replacement project on State Highway 2 Pekatahi Bridge is complete and the road is open today, however a detour will remain in place around the Waimana Gorge site until early next week.
