UPDATE 9PM: State Highway 35 between Ōpōtiki and Gisborne is now closed. SH35 at Motu River has collapsed along the centre line this evening with the eastbound lane falling into the river.
Waka Kotahi is advising that SH2 will remain reduced to a single lane over the weekend at the site of an underslip on the southern approach to the Motu Bridge between Gisborne and Opotiki.
As parts of the Central North Island start to dry off ahead of the next big deluge, and others continue to batter strong winds and heavy rain, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is asking people to take care and be aware on the roads these school holidays.
Saddle Road will be closed between Ashhurst and Woodville during the day on weekdays in the upcoming July school holidays, to allow essential resurfacing and maintenance work to be completed.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and Gisborne District Council have completed the most significant component of the Gisborne-wide asphalting programme, with the asphalting and resurfacing of the Gladstone Road bridge deck and replacement of the deck joints. Structural repairs to the underside of the bridge have also been completed.
Steps to improve safety and reduce traffic noise on State Highway 3 at Egmont Village, Taranaki, will get underway shortly, in response to feedback from the local community.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, together with Waikato Regional Council and Hamilton City Council, are planning changes to SH3 Ōhaupō Road in Glenview to support a new bus hub and to improve safety and connections for people who are walking and cycling.
Work to make State Highway 1 (SH1) Waikato Expressway safer at Hampton Downs will get underway next week, with two overnight closures planned so temporary steel barriers can be installed.
The new Te Maunga interchange, at the State Highway 2 and 29A intersection at Baypark, will partially open late Monday night, 4 July, taking traffic over State Highway 2.
