4:30pm update: The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) expects to fully reinstate access to SH2 and SH25 later today. However there are still some remaining cleanup operations underway following the recent severe weather event. The NZTA is advising motorists to continue to take care on state highways around the Coromandel and Bay of Plenty until this work is complete.

The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that State Highway 3 east of the Awakino tavern has now reopened, following the clearance of two slips caused by heavy rain in the area.
Access to State Highway 3 near Awakino is now back to two lanes as at 4.30 pm today, following yesterday's slips which blocked the road on two occasions.
Heavy rain has caused a 60 metre long slip on SH3 near Awakino and the road is likely to be blocked until later tonight (Monday 16 July). An alternative route is available and it may take a number of hours for road crews to restore at least single lane access to the highway.
