The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists that the Northern Gateway Johnstones Hill toll road tunnels will be fully closed again over two nights on 18 and 19 May, while the final stage of work to upgrade the tunnel’s traffic management systems is completed.
More than 100 disadvantaged young people in Te Kuiti have gained their restricted drivers licence, thanks to an initiative funded by the NZ Transport Agency and AA, in partnership with Chevron New Zealand and Hyundai New Zealand.
The Transport Agency has confirmed the timing for next month’s extended closures of the Taramakau road/rail Bridge on State Highway 6 near Greymouth, so safety improvement work can be carried out on the entrances to the bridge.

Work has started on the Nelson Street Cycle Route linking Upper Queen Street to Quay Street via the disused Nelson Street off-ramp. The proposed cycle route will connect to the north-western and Grafton Gully cycleways, providing easier and safer access to and from the city centre.
