21 - Higher-speed areas – single lane each way | NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi

Aim

To legally and safely drive at higher speeds, while staying in a safe position on the road and keeping within the posted speed limit.

Keep the vehicle near the middle of the left lane.
Keep a safe distance from parked vehicles, kerbside hazards and oncoming vehicles.
Drive at a speed appropriate for the conditions.
Keep a correct position in the traffic flow and stay at a safe following distance behind the vehicle in front (at least two seconds behind).
Check the mirrors regularly (about every 10 seconds).
Consistently search forward and to both sides for potential hazards.
Perform the tasks at least two times.
