Due to a serious crash near the summit of the Remutaka Hill shortly before 7 am this morning, State Highway 2 is CLOSED between Kaitoke and Featherston.
Drivers in the lower North Island are being urged to take extra care on the region’s roads ahead of forecast bad weather hitting later today (5 October).
State Highway 1 Transmission Gully has reopened to all traffic between Paekākāriki and Pāuatahanui, following a truck fire on the route earlier Saturday morning (1 October).
The emergency closure is planned for Thursday night, 29 September to allow roading crews to clear multiple slips and make the highway safe for road users. This is a new closure and not part of previously announced planned maintenance events.
