Edge marker posts are not normally needed in urban areas where street lighting illuminates the road and other road features provide drivers with sufficient guidance to the alignment of the road. However, they may be used where enhanced delineation is needed. The road safety strategy for an RCA will define the levels at which edge marker posts should be installed; guidance in this regard is provided in Table 2‑25. Edge marker posts on straights shall be placed in accordance with the requirements described in the edge marker posts section. Edge marker posts shall comply with the dimensions and configuration described in Figure 3‑4, below. Edge marker posts should be placed vertically with the top of the post 900mm above the edge of the adjacent traffic lane.
