Safety assessment fees

A rail participant must reimburse Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency for costs incurred in carrying out, or in paying for the carrying out of, a safety assessment under section 37(external link) of the Act. [12(1)(external link)]

This includes a charge of $120/hr for each employee of Waka Kotahi carrying out safety assessment activities and additional expenses such as travel. Waka Kotahi will strive to ensure these expenses are appropriate and fair and will discuss with you as appropriate. [12(2)(external link)].

These activities may include:

• Rail participant analysis and preparation of the assessment scope
• Development of the assessment plan
• Site risk assessment
• On-site assessment
• Specific documentation reviews
• Assessment report drafting and finalisation
• Determination of any remedial actions required.
