The Transport Services Technical advice note (TAN) is a formal memo which keeps all relevant people up to date and aware of any new releases, interim acceptances, changes and updates to technical information, specifications, legislation, etc in relation to highway projects.

This is being used in place of the email memos you may have been receiving from the technical teams across the Transport Services group.

The Technical advice note series should be seen as the one source of truth associated with changes to our technical requirements.

It is sent to registered users, both internal and external to the NZ Transport Agency.

#21-11 Amendment of SM014 Cost Estimation Manual

This note is to advise that an amendment has been made to the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (Waka Kotahi) Cost Estimation Manual SM014 (herein referred to as ‘SM014’).   This is a general update to align the manual with current business and cost estimation practice. The amended SM014 comes into effect from the date of publication of this note.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency wishes to advise that Specification P23: 2005 performance-based specification for hotmix asphalt wearing course surfacing, and its accompanying Notes, have been withdrawn and must no longer be used in new Waka Kotahi contracts.   This change will be active from the date of publication of this notice.

This note is to advise that an amendment has been made to the third edition of the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (Waka Kotahi) Manual SM021, Contract Procedures Manual. The third edition is to be used for all procurement of infrastructure and non-infrastructure goods/services/works and is available for download from the Waka Kotahi website. The change will not be applied retrospectively but will apply to all procurements that commence following the date of publication.

#21-08 NZTA Z01:2021, Minimum standard for quality management plans with inclusion of maintenance contract requirements

#21-07 Move from hot cut-back bitumen to bitumen emulsion

#21-06 Horizontal geometric design for mobility scooters

This note is intended to provide effective guidance on the layout of pedestrian infrastructure designed to provide access for mobility scooters.
