The Asset Management Data Standard (AMDS) programme will develop and implement a national, shared data standard for land transport infrastructure assets.

It will be a way of defining and describing land transport assets, their attributes, characteristics, properties, location and performance to enable efficient and effective end-to-end life cycle asset management.

AMDS is one of the building blocks to enable a Digital Engineering for Transport (DefT) and Building Information Modeling Approach (BIM) approach by providing an agreed set of definitions, labels, categories and data requirements for land transport assets across New Zealand.

To realise benefits more quickly and with agreement from the sector, we are working with the sector to re-baseline the approach and implementation of the asset management data standard to accelerate the rollout of the standard. The detailed implementation plan rollout and support will commence July 2022.

How are we doing this?

  • Waka Kotahi is working with transport sector SMEs from Downer, Fulton Hogan, WSP, Higgins and Waka Kotahi to accelerate the development of the standard.
  • Data Standard leadership expertise in building and delivering on implementation programmes.
  • Developing inventory assets and the management of the asset over its lifecycle enabling key performance measures to be captured.
  • Releasing the data standard in cycles and seeking sector review and feedback.
  • Producing outputs in usable formats (xls, xsd, pdf) to support the toolsets used by our sector partners.
  • Incorporating feedback received to date and republishing latest versions.
  • Prototyping and testing within a mix of small – large sites representing Road Controlling Authorities (RCAs) and Network outcomes contracts (NOCs) from February- December 2021.
  • Working with technology vendors to ensure their systems can function using the standard.
  • Making the published standard available for Asset Management Solution (AMS) technology providers to use in their AMS systems
  • Understanding the type and level of support RCAs need to implement the standard to facilitate rollout of the standard.
